Surface socket outlets make installation/uninstallation of fittings (such as LED downlights) much easier.

Essentially, having a surface socket installed turns light fittings that come with flex and plugs into ‘plug and play’ fittings, meaning that you do not need an electrician to

install/uninstall a light fitting on that particular point in the future.
